REPURPOSING YOUR UNUSED SPACE IN YOUR HOUSE

Every home has empty or unused spaces that are sometimes difficult to furnish, whether it is hallways,  entryways or awkward nooks or a forgotten-about spot under your stairs or a back bedroom you never furnished.

Even in a small, one-bedroom apartment, dead space is common, and coming up with the right design can sometimes be laborious. There are many ways to transform a space for a purpose you both need and want.

Here are some ways to transform these bare, underutilized spaces into your favourite spots in the house.

Rearrange your furniture

Rearranging your furniture is a simple method to take advantage of unused space. A simple layout alteration can fit underutilized spaces and create a more organized room. Through imaginative and innovative furniture design or DIY artwork, you can transform the aesthetic of your hallway or entrance and bring wasted space to the forefront. You might also attempt repurposing the area by building a shoe closet near the main door.

Awkward Corners

Awkward spaces call for creative design solutions. Embrace that empty corner, oddly shaped nook with something dramatic and unexpected, such as a luxuriant houseplant or tree, an object collected on one of your far-flung excursions or vacations, or a decor piece that immediately conjures up a beloved memory or pastime. This will not only be a conversational starter and personal but also give your space an immediate uplift with minimal effort.

There is also a plethora of furniture pieces are specifically designed for problem areas, namely your home's awkward corners like under the stairs. Fill the void with a shelf unit as a bookcase, a triangular cabinet or desk making it a study area or mini home office, or seating that nestles into the space. While many homeowners spend a lot of money on a subterranean wine cellar, you may avoid the headache (and the exorbitant expense) by building one in your awkward space

Unfinished Rooms

Unfinished areas are premium targets for additional rooms. Many homes have basements, 3rd-floor space or areas over a garage that have not been built out. Consider which hobbies or activities you enjoy the most and would like to devote more space in your home too. This gives you an opportunity to experiment with colour and interior design because it does not necessarily have to match the other living spaces. The area can be utilized as an additional living area, kids’ hangout rooms, home theatres, extra bedrooms, or man (or woman) caves.

These rooms can also serve as a dual purpose with under-bed storage and wall-mounted fold-down desks which make it simple to provide a bedroom for overnight guests while also converting it into an office or hobby room when friends and family are not present.

The benefit of having an extra room is that you can give it multiple functions and design it to best suit your needs.

With a little bit of creative thinking, you will be surprised by the endless possibilities that open up to make your house a home.
